Some studies show that Americans no longer socialize, or even know, their neighbors. How well do you know yours?

Looking Back

Faces and places from the past are featured each week in Looking Back, sponsored by Standard Supply, and we invite you to share your memories here.

If you can identify anyone or remember the occasion, please scroll down and leave a comment.

We don’t know what venture was being discussed around this table, but we do see some familiar faces and believe the photo may be from the late 1970s or early 1980s. A scribbled note on the back appears to say “old Belview” but we’re not too sure about that. Do you see anyone you know or remember the occasion? If you do, call Sherri at 423-9331 or send an e-mail.

Wayne Young, Linda Thrower-West and Kent Heninger have identified people in last week’s Looking Back photo. Crowned homecoming queen is Pauline Taylor (inset photo shows her at a class reunion here on August 9), Fitzgerald High School’s first black homecoming queen. Also on the court are (from left) Mary Evelyn Luke, Carolyn McKenzie, Debra Hurt and Amy Bowen. The girl with the hat hanging down her back has been identified as Betty Campbell. The girl standing at left with long blonde hair is JoAnne Cowan, and the black man wearing a suit with a flower in his lapel, at left in the bleachers, has been identified as Melvin Taylor. The girl with long blonde hair kneeling at front with her back to the camera may be Amy Blackmarr.

Does anyone remember the first love of my life (not counting Mother). . . Miss Mary Merrit of the Lee kindergarten in 1938 and 1939?
