Looking Back

Faces and places from the past are featured each week in Looking Back, sponsored by Standard Supply, and we invite you to share your memories here.

If you can identify anyone or remember the occasion, please scroll down and leave a comment.

This convivial Christmas gathering might have been a church circle or a Sunday school class or perhaps a garden club. We’re guessing a 1960s date for this. Do you recognize any of these women or remember the occasion? If you do, call Sherri at 423-9331 or

Peggy Smith Clemons and Sandy Revell identified several family members in last week’s picture with the portrait of Peggy’s father, the late Rev. C.W. Smith. Identified are (from left) Peggy’s sister, the late Diane Henry, her aunt, Lillian Marchant, mother, Luradine Smith, and brother, Alton Smith. Sandy says the tall man at right was John Nix. Peggy believes the occasion was the presentation of a citizenship award. Sandy, who was a student in Mr. Smith’s classDiana Pate, whose daughter Tara Pate is also in the photo, has identified the girls on the back row of the August 27 Looking Back photo as one of the Bernhardt girls, possibly Deidre Stone, a Hatcher girl and Leah Walker.
