San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has refused to stand before the playing of the national anthem at football games as a protest against injustice. Others have joined him. Do you think a professional athlete should be punished for not saluting the American flag or holding his hand over his heart for the national anthem?

There is a clue to the date of this picture of a dogwood tree being planted north of the Grand on South Main. The storefront at right, where Cirillo’s is now, was then occupied by the House of Yesteryear, an antique shop owned by the late Rosa Lee Jay for several years circa 1980. Do you recognize any of these youngsters or remember who was involved with the planting? If you do, call Sherri at 423-9331 or send an email.

Dana Schell, Lori Nipp, Claire Catrabone, Bill Livingston and Gina Royal all contacted us about last week’s photo. Identified are (from left) Tina Catrabone, Mark Merritt, Holli Griner, the late Scott Livingston (Bill’s son), Kim McCall Dutton, Ron Lewis and Manon Grills Wingate. Claire says the photo is from the Clatina dance revue of 1983. Lori has also identified most of the Top 10 students from the September 7 Looking Back as (from left): front, Wanda Ramsay, Bill Cleghorn, Cindy Stephenson Parsons, Mary Hinton Byrne and Patricia Coney, and rear, Nancy Pittman Lupinek, Dorothy Smith Reed, Lee Mann, Millie Paulk Ward and unidentified.
